By that the vine-grower continues an old tradition: The approximately 5.5 hectare big vineyard dates back to 1876 and is widely known for its excellent quality of grapes. Altapontuação's first harvest was already convincing so that the red wine vintage 2008 was awarded with a silver medal at the Wine Masters Challenge 2010 .
The winery Altapontuação is part of the municipality Celeirós south of the small town of Sabrosa. Its vineyard is stated at 385 to 450 meters altitude where partially over 50 years old vines grow on slopes exposed in south and east exposed slopes.

Best Of Douro
The company Best of Douro combines two professionals of the Port Wine industry: While oenologist Joaquim Anacleto has previously worked for different wine companies, economic expert Dr. Pedro Mendes has years long experience in the field of wine originated from Porto and Douro Valley (D.O.C).
Joaquim Anacleto and Pedro Mendes founded the joint project Best of Douro with the support of their partner Aurèlio Nunes. It comprises two large wineries of the Douro region. The “Adega Cooperativa de Lamego“ and the centre of winemaking Cabuoco (both in the region of Lamego). Best of Douro uses first-class grapes of the Douro Valley to make traditional port wine, high-quality table wine (D.O.C) and quality sparkling wine.
Casa de Santo António de Britiande
The Pinto Ribeiro family lives in the Douro region and has dedicated itself to winemaking since many generations ago. Meanwhile, they manage three wineries: one being the Quinta dos Urgais in the municipality Souto (Penedono district). The other two are wineries in the Douro region. Their wine is still processed in oak barrels and granite containers using the traditional style of the region.
Furthermore, the family runs the historic farm house Casa de Santo António de Britiande which they opened for tourists and events in 1991. Olive oil and wine (D.O.C.) are here, among other things, presented in show rooms. All the products were made by the family with a lot of love and dedication.
After his oenology study (winery management/wine production) Paulo Duarte founded his corporation D'Origem in 2001. Since his ancestors have already been producing and exporting wine his own winery is a continuation of his family tradition. Whereas he is the fourth generation. As a small buiness owner vine-grower Paulo Duarte still controls the whole process personally – from grape cultivation to pressing to bottling and sale. His main focus lies in the continuation of his heritage and also to bring it to perfection.
In memory of his ancestors Paulo Duarte named his brand of wine “Herança“ (heritage) and “Velha Geração“ (old generation). Besides, he eternized pictures of his great-grandparents, grandparents and parents on his labels. The grapes used for his red and white wine (D.O.C.) as well as the ones used for his grape juice originate from a ten hectare big plantage near Pinhão.

Solar de Serrade
Solar de Serrade is a family business of producers, located in the civil parish of Mazedo, 3 km away from Monҫão village.
History relates that wines from Monҫão started to be exported to England more than 50 years before the Treaty of Windsor (1386). The development of the wine-culture and commerce of Alvarinho only started in the second quarter of the twentieth century. Solar de Serrade was built in the seventeenth century and has its own wine tradition thanks to its terroir with the nice land quality and the fine sun exposure.
Since the Solar de Serrade gets new owners in 1981 the vineyards spread out over 30 hectares. Now the vineyards are between six and 25 years old, they are sun exposed and south facing. Until 1999 all the wine production was send to Adega Cooperativa de Monҫão. But in the same year they started to build their own cellar.
"Our mission is to produce high quality wines with native grapes harvested in our Quinta, highlighting the typicity and gastronomic aspects of the Dão, integrating traditional winemaking practices with a modern approach for the best expression of our terroir."
The Kelman family vineyard is located in the heart of the demarcated region of Dão, a plateau surrounded by mountains escapes. It is one of the oldest and most traditional wine making regions of Portugal. The vineyard has 6 hectares of native grape varieties that were planted in year 2000. Their vineyard stands at 450 meters above sea level on a mild slope. Sandy soils of granitic origin provide very good drainage. The temperate climate of continental influence brings cool, rainy winters and dry, sunny summers. Daily temperature amplitude favors grapes with a good balance between sugar and acidity, key to producing elegant and fresh wines with great potential for aging.
Fermentation either takes place in granite lagares by foot threading the grapes following a local tradition or in modern stainless tanks. Touriga Nacional, for instance, is fermented in a high tech tank that uses the turbulence of trapped CO2 gas (naturally produced by fermentation process) to stir the grape skins with the must during maceration, avoiding the use of electric pumps. Wines tend to be fruitier and less stringent with this process.
French oak barriques of 225 Liters are used moderately, in order not to hide the fruit and freshness, but to presents the evolution capability of Dão wines. The wines are naturally stabilized, which may produce some sediments after some time.
Wine making is a family business. They hope to share their vision of Dão, a place of elegant wines with plenty of aging capability and that evolve well over time.
More than that: a beautiful region with friendly people that sing on the day of harvest, following the tradition of many generations. It is also a region in transformation, with an increased number of producers crafting great wines from grapes harvested in their quintas.
They see themselves in this journey and welcome you to join the ride.
